

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship Guidelines
The Delaware County Sports Heritage Foundation sponsors the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship Program. The program was established to assist and encourage the continued education of students who demonstrate a desire to attend a post-secondary school.

​All scholarships are for one school year of the recipient’s education.
Eligibility for Closed Level Scholarships

Be a son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter/, nephew/niece of a member of the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame or a member of the Board of Directors.

Enroll in the Fall Term of the Scholarship year in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at a post-secondary school, accredited college/university, or a United States Military Academy.

Be nominated by a member of the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame, Board of Directors, or a survivor of the same two groups.

Successful or unsuccessful candidates may reapply in future years.
​Closed Level Scholarship Awards

​The Francis Lafferty Hall of Fame Scholarship award is $3,500.

The Hill Family Scholarship is $2,000.
-
The Roberta “Tootie” Falls Memorial Scholarship award is $1,000.

The Coach DeNeal Family Scholarship award is $1,000.
-
The James Cartwright Scholarship award is $750.

Eligibility for Open Level Scholarships

Applications for the two (2) Larry & Cheryl New Family Basketball Scholarships are to be submitted individually to the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame (HOF) Board of Directors. These are open scholarships that are available to any graduating senior from any of the eight (8) public high schools in Delaware County. The individuals (male and female) must be a high school senior basketball participant and finished their season in good standing. The selection of the recipient of the Larry & Cheryl New Family Basketball Scholarships will be determined by the HOF Board of Directors. The criteria used to determine the scholarship recipient will be the same as those used by the HOF Board of Directors in the selection process for all scholarships presented through the HOF with following exceptions: 1) The recipient must have competed in his/her senior year basketball season. 2) The scholarship is not limited to a student-athlete who is a relative of a HOF member or a HOF Board Member.

Applications for the Schrecongost Family Golf Scholarship are to be submitted to the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame (HOF) Board of Directors. It is an open scholarship that is available to any graduating senior from any of the eight (8) public high schools in Delaware County. The individual must have been a high school senior golf participant and finished the season in good standing. The selection of the recipient of the Schrecongost Family Golf Scholarship will be determined by the HOF Board of Directors. The criteria used to determine the scholarship recipient will be the same as those used by the HOF Board of Directors in the selection process for all scholarships presented through the HOF with following exceptions: 1) The recipient must have completed his/her senior year golf season as a member in good standing of their high school golf team. 2) The scholarship is not limited to a student-athlete who is a relative of a HOF member or a HOF Board Member.

Applications for the Tom Childs Family Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 per year. It is an open scholarship that is available to any graduating senior from any of the eight (8) public high schools in Delaware County. The selection guidelines will be the same as all hall of fame scholarships (Academic Achievement, Athletic Participation and Community Service). The recipient will be selected by the HOF Board

​Application Procedure

A member of the Delaware County Hall of Fame or the Board of Directors have the opportunity to nominate an applicant. This could also include a survivor or immediate relative of these two groups.

The student applicant must complete and return the following information:

Narrative Resume addressing the information requested in Step 1 of the Selection Process

Official High School and/or college transcripts (if applicable)

Other information as noted in the eligibility outline.

Selection Process

Selection of the recipient(s) will be based on academic achievement, athletic participation, and community service.

Applicants will be evaluated only on the information supplied; therefore, it is important to provide all requested documentation completed as accurately as possible.

The selection process will enable a student to only receive one of the scholarships offered through the HOF. If they are eligible for multiple scholarships, the recipient will receive the scholarship with the highest valued award for which they have been selected.

The scholarship recipient(s) are selected by the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame.

All applicants(s) will be notified of their status by June 15th of the selection year.

The successful recipient(s) will be our guest at the Hall of Fame Induction banquet in July where he/she will receive their award.

Financial Payment of Award
The actual financial award will be paid directly to the Bursar’s Office at the college/university where the award recipient(s) will attend.
